Tea & Incense Sensory Ceremony
Ceramics are the visible vessels through which we drink tea, which is the core theme of this beautiful exhibition; while incense is the unseen vessel through which we feel it. During the opening day of the exhibition, we create this special tea & incense session where flavour, aroma, texture, and ritual converge that goes beyond just tea sipping.
In this session:
-
We begin with select teas: exquisite oolong and an aged tea. Each is chosen for its energy, depth, and capacity to open the senses.
-
Through guided tasting, you’ll learn techniques used by tea and incense professionals to appreciate every nuance: how the aroma unfolds, how taste and scent echo each other, and exploring deeper and going inward.
-
We will explore both indirect and direct appreciation of incense — beginning with the calm presence of raw, unlit incense woods. You’ll be invited to quietly smell premium aloewood (agarwood) in its natural state
-
After that, we will transition into the direct method, we will use the Agarwood incense made in our century-old incense house, while sipping tea, noticing how the tea's flavour and the scent's essence unfold in harmony.
In this session, you will have a chance to experience the finest and rarest teas and incense woods:
- Smangus God‘s Garden Light Oolong
- Formosa Native Wild Mountain Tea
- Aged Dong Ding Oolong year 1999
- Hainan Bug-bitten incense woods from China
- Hoi An Red Soil Agarwood from Vietnam
All our teas and incense woods and incense sticks are pure, unscented, contain no synthetics, additives, or artificial fragrance.
Why this sensory experience matters:
-
Incense softens the boundary between the outer world and the inner senses, helping you slow down with tea rather than rush through it.
-
Tea provides the body; incense provides the breath & aroma — together they deepen presence, calm mental activity, and amplify your awareness of taste, texture, and space.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
To get the fullest sensory experience, avoid strong perfumes or scented products, and steer clear of heavily flavoured foods (chilli, onions, garlic, spices) just before the session. Please arrive a few minutes early so we can begin together in a contemplative atmosphere.
Participants: 8
Date & Location:
15:30 - 16:30 on October 4th.
