This late-1980s Duo Zhi teapot by Fang Jianfen (房建芬) is a classic and highly regarded Factory One shape among Yixing enthusiasts and collectors. Combining elegant proportions with excellent daily usability, Fang Jianfen’s Duo Zhi works are especially appreciated for their balanced silhouette, precise craftsmanship, and exceptionally comfortable pouring performance.
Made from purple clay (zisha) and holding approximately 120ml, the teapot’s rounded stacked form gives it a calm and refined presence while also making it highly versatile across different tea types. The shape retains heat steadily and produces a rich, rounded tea liquor, making it particularly suitable for roasted oolongs, aged teas, shu puerh, and traditional-style heavy roasted Tieguanyin.
Compared to many standard late-1980s Factory One production teapots, Fang Jianfen’s works are known for their finer finishing. The transitions between body, lid, spout, and handle feel especially harmonious, reflecting the stronger individual craftsmanship still present during this period, even within the traditional semi-handmade slab-and-mold production methods of Factory One.
A beautiful example of late Factory One practicality meeting refined artisan sensibility, this Duo Zhi remains both highly collectible and deeply enjoyable for everyday gongfu tea brewing.
