Lei Kou Chai is a rare Phoenix Dancong oolong with a name often translated as “Thunder-Struck Wood”. According to local tea stories, lightning once damaged the original tea tree, and careful propagation later preserved its character, giving this tea a distinctive name and memorable origin.
Our Lei Kou Chai comes from Da’an Village, one of the respected high-mountain areas of the Phoenix Mountain region in Chaozhou, Guangdong, grown at over 1,100 meters above sea level. The high-mountain terroir gives the tea a clean structure and lifted finish, while medium roasting brings out a deeper, more grounded character for its specific aroma.
Compared with more floral Dancong teas, Lei Kou Chai leans towards the woody and nutty side with a orchid flower note. Our high-mountain tea contributes to a liquor that is exceptionally thick, smooth, and bouncy, carrying notes of nuts, mountain wood, soft orchid, and honeyed warmth. In the aftertaste, a very slight bright citrus-peel-like lift appears, adding freshness and balance to its complex profile.
