    • Red Clay Flat-Belly “Shi Piao” Teapot by Tan Yufen, Late 1980s Yixing Factory No.1

This teapot, crafted in the late 1980s during the early “White Label” era of the Yixing Factory No.1, is a classic representation of the flat shih-piao form, an iconic low-profile design with triangular lines and a well-grounded stance. The piece is made by Tan Yufen (談玉芬), who was trained at Factory No.1 and later became a nationally certified Yixing potter.

The clay used is red Yixing clay (hong ni), known for its clean, pure character and excellent performance with fragrant teas. It is particularly suitable for brewing high-mountain oolongs, light oolongs, and aromatic Dancong teas, allowing their high floral notes and clarity to shine.

The pot features a hand-carved Heart Sutra (般若波羅蜜多心經) across its body, adding a meditative aesthetic and spiritual quietude to the tea experience. It is equipped with a single-hole spout, typical of its time.

While not overly elaborate in craftsmanship, this teapot offers solid construction and classic material from the Factory One legacy, making it ideal for those who appreciate honest utility and vintage charm.
