About

The name "Dong Ding" translates to "Frozen Summit" or "Icy Peak," reflecting the high altitude and cool climate of the region where the tea is grown.

Our Lee’s Dong Ding Edition is made of the Chin Shin Oolong cultivar grown in the misty Xalut Mountain tea garden (> 1800m) and handcrafted with Charcoal roasting by Master Lee Ming-Zheng, a celebrated tea artisan from the famous Zhangya Village in Dong Ding, Lugu. Last year, Master Lee was awarded the Grand Prize at the prestigious Lugu Farmers’ Association competition, with over 4500 tea samples for each competition season, this award is a top 0.1% position.

Staying true to the traditional style of Dong Ding Oolong, this tea features a higher oxidation level than modern “light” oolongs. The result is a smooth, full-bodied liquor with comforting sweetness, a hint of dried fruit, and long-lasting sweet aftertaste. It is then perfectly medium-roasted, adding depth and a gentle baked grains finish, creating an increasingly rare profile in today’s greener Dong Ding oolong market.

Beyond its layered flavor, the tea's well-balanced fermentation also makes it gentler on the stomach, minimizing astringency while enhancing digestibility, thus ideal for both daily enjoyment and mindful sipping.

If you're looking to experience an authentic, award-winning traditional Dong Ding Oolong, this medium-roasted masterpiece by Master Lee is not to be missed.

Behind This Tea

Lee Ming-Cheng is a third-generation tea master whose tea estate is located in Lugu, the heart of Taiwan's tea industry. In an era dominated by lightly fermented and floral teas, Master Lee remains steadfast in preserving the traditional craft of Dong Ding oolong tea. His dedication to this heritage involves a meticulous process, requiring both higher costs and effort, to produce teas with a rich, full-bodied flavor that is gentle on the stomach.

Master Lee’s roasting techniques are unparalleled. He not only captures the quintessential roasted aroma of classic Dong Ding oolong but also tailors each tea’s roasting level to highlight its unique characteristics. His Dong Ding oolong tea recently won the Grand Prize in the 2024 Lugu Tea Competition, and his Gui Fei tea boasts an unparalleled forest honey aroma that lingers on the palate.

With an unwavering commitment to traditional craftsmanship and a keen eye for perfection, Master Lee is truly a top-tier tea artisan.
