Fang Yuan means Square and Round
In traditional Chinese wisdom, “Round on the Outside, Square on the Inside” represents an ideal balance between personal integrity and how you deal with others.
Square on the Inside — Inner Principles: Like a square with clearly defined edges, one should possess strong moral character, integrity, and conviction. It means staying true to one's values and upholding principles.
Round on the Outside — Social Wisdom: Like a circle, one should approach the world with flexibility, openness, and grace. It means being adaptable, understanding, and diplomatic in relationships.
The Harmony of Both is a core value in Chinese wisdom; ancient Chinese copper coins beautifully symbolise it: round on the outside, with a square hole in the centre.
This gaiwan set is elegant and understated, yet practical and functional, and its tall shape channels aromas well. It is suitable for green, oolong, and red teas, especially suitable for making delicate artisan tea. It also subtly captures that important wisdom and carries a gentle philosophy with every infusion on your tea table.
